RBWM Gypsy Traveller and Travelling Showperson Consultation

Assessment 2017 – Stakeholder Consultation

This is a reminder and deadline extension for the Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment. We have been asked by a stakeholder for some more time to complete the survey and as such we have extended the deadline from this coming Friday to Friday 4th August to allow everyone some more time to get involved with this important piece of research.

Background to the research:

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council, has commissioned arc4 to conduct a Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA) update for the Council area.

It is intended that this new assessment will identify current and future accommodation needs of the Traveller communities in Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. This is necessary to meet national planning policy requirements. Our assessment will update and replace the previous GTAA and provide the evidence base to support the consideration of planning applications and allow the local authority to progress the review of their local plan. The main purpose of the update will be to:

  • Record baseline data on the number, type and occupancy of plots, taking into account any changes in site capacity, vacancy and turnover or residents;
  • Consider the implications of the new definition of Gypsies and Travellers introduced in the Government’s 2015 Planning Policy for Traveller Sites (PPTS).

The study will seek to:

  • provide a clear and robust understanding of the permanent, transit and other accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in relation to the Windsor and Maidenhead area;
  • provide analysis of the pitches, plots and moorings that exist within the Windsor and Maidenhead area;
  • provide general advice on the local housing needs of Gypsies and Travellers and Travelling Showpeople; and
  • provide any appropriate recommendations on-site identification and delivery to meet the identified accommodation needs.

It will not be proposing allocation of any land for pitches, plots or moorings. Allocations (if required) will be brought forward under the proposed Gypsy and Traveller local plan in 2018.

This on-line survey is designed to capture a range of views on specific themes and issues with the intention of securing as wide a range of views and opinions from stakeholders as possible.

You can skip any questions that you want to but, the more responses we get to each question the greater our understanding of the key issues will be. Please answer as many of the questions as possible, or those which you deem to be appropriate to your professional background or organisation type.
